Back in December, one of our weekly themes was “Alphabet in the City” and our community explored different ways of capturing letterforms in the environment. It might sound like an easy exercise but one can’t underestimate the value of such projects that allow you to filter your subject matter and train your eye to see beyond what’s right in front of us.
Similar to that experiment, this week’s theme was about spotting this time “Numbers” in the streets around us. It wasn’t one of the most popular themes we’ve had so far, but nevertheless we still got some very interesting entries. Each of the photographers tackled numbers in their own way, combining the Arabic or Latin digits with another subject matter to accentuate the story. See what we’re talking about here.
One of our favorites was the following by Mounir:
This is not a sight you see everyday but it certainly makes sense that businesses (guessing this is in Italy?) would advertise their numbers right by a phone. A rudimentary form of guerilla marketing, perhaps? The mood of the photograph with sepia tone makes the combination of phone booth with numbers on the floor rather charming. It appears as if the numbers are almost floating off the ground.
What do you think of this photograph? Share your thoughts with us below and let us know other favorites you might have from this week’s album.
